Things to consider when visiting Oman

Climate

November is a pleasant time to visit the desert climate in Oman. We'll be expecting sunshine and highs around 30°C (86°F) and lows around 21°C (70°F).

Clothing

For the UFI Global Congress, we will have our usual 'business casual' attire suggestions for delegates while at Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. When your outside of UFI events, we suggest you follow a conservative approach to your attire as is common in the region. For example, swimwear should be worn only on beaches or at swimming pools. When visiting attractions, don't wear anything tight or revealing, and you may want to check out website attractions ahead of time as certain locations, such as mosques, have stricter dress codes.

Business Hours

Like most countries in the Gulf region, Oman’s official business week is Sunday-Thursday, with the weekend being Friday and Saturday. Banks, Embassies and Consulates are generally open from 8am-12 noon.

Credit Cards

Major cards such as Visa, MasterCard and Amex are widely accepted.

Currency

Omani Rial, with an exchange rate of USD 2.597.

Money Exchange

Money can be exchanged at Muscat International Airport, money exchanges and banks. Always make sure to have your passport or ID when exchanging money.

Electric Power

220/240 Volts, alternating at 50 cycles per second. Standard British-type 13-amp square three-pin plugs are used throughout the country. Europe and US appliances may need an adapter.

Liquor

As usual, we will be serving alcohol at our UFI networking events. You will also find bars in our host hotels, and typically you'll find alcohol served in hotels, clubs, and restaurants. However, drinking in public places such as public beaches is not permitted.
